Walking the south-west coast path with an elopement on the way!
The lovely Libby, Graham and Martha the dog have been exploring the southwest coast path over the course of several years.
This year they decided to ever so casually break up the walk by getting married!
Not to be put off by the record-breaking rainfall that arrived just in time for their visit, the intrepid three embarked on their adventure. Up and down the cliffs they persisted even through the craziest of downpours, only giving in when they’d become too weighed down by sodden clothing and backpacks so heavy we had to check if there were actually carrying rocks! We came to the rescue and picked up the dripping trio from Mevagissey.
Needless to say, our Lower Barns welcome featuring champagne and luxury accommodation was just what they needed!
Our sundance had proved worthwhile though, and by the time they were ready to get married the sun was beaming down for them.
In usual Lower Barns style, Libby and Graham’s elopement was super chilled and informal. Smiles, vows and rings all under the watchful gaze of Martha, and the happy couple were wed.
Of course, what nuptials are complete without a slap up meal? These guys dined on fresh local fish, one of their favourites, followed by a homemade crumble made with apples from the garden and blackberries we foraged from the hedges. Seasonal, local perfection all washed down with chilled champagne. To finish, the lovely Rachel designed the most beautiful hand-painted elopement wedding cake, with no detail passed by. Libby, Graham, Martha, backpack, sailing boats and ocean all featuring for a truly personal touch.
Finally, with the weather back in favour, the newlyweds and their four-legged friend headed off towards Looe to complete their walk.
We love the whole walk and wedding combo, so if you’re keen coastal explorers and fancy getting hitched mid-walk, give us a shout. The southwest coast offers the most spectacular scenery, and chucking in a stunning hideaway elopement is pretty hard to beat!
As Libby said, “the walking was hard, but booking the wedding was so easy”.
