We have had so many enquiries about people wanting to elope and bring their dog with them. Given the fact that Mike and I are dog lovers it’s easy to understand why, it could be very hard to be separated from your loyal, loving, furry friend on such an important day. And without doubt they add to the atmosphere and certainly the photo’s.
We made the decision to have dogs to stay at weddings, with couples booking The Hayloft and The Hideaway. Both of these rooms are spacious, with either tiled or wooden floor and The Hideaway has it’s own private garden.
And it seems that the love of a dog and the desire to spend the day together is yet another good reason for choosing an elopement. Apparently even the most predictable pooch can be a little unsettled at a big wedding and do something out of the ordinary, which is disconcerting when a big event is set to a tight plan and schedule. Elopements at Lower Barns are much more low key, low pressure and about meeting the needs of the couple; making them more relaxed and enjoying the moment, creating memories of love to last forever.
Couples staying in The Hideaway have their breakfast in bed, their own garden and it’s just a short stroll across the lawn to The Wed Shed. There’s not really much a dog could get wrong here.
We do ask that dogs sleep in their own beds, to help with familiarity but also to preserve and protect our furniture and accessories.
Lower Barns is a great spot for dog walking too, with The Lost Gardens of Heligan just a mile up our country lane, where dogs are welcome on leads. There are lots of beaches where dogs are welcome all year, with Caerhays, Gorran Haven and Vault all very close. Vault was listed by The Guardian as one of the top ten beaches in the world. It’s ‘off the beaten track’ compared with Caerhays and Gorran Haven which both have fantastic cafes and convenient parking. And why not just enjoy a lazy hour or two people watching on Mevagissey harbour with a pasty and your pooch, watching the fishing boats come and go and kids crabbing on the harbour wall.
